The mountain roads are absolutely lovely, the extra minutes of travel time adding enjoyment to your trip. However, please be advised that some of these roads are narrow and winding, and they can become icy during the winter. Please call for directions during our winter season, and we will provide a suggested route.

From San Jose International Airport (SJC)

Via Bear Creek Road
Time:  45 minutes 
Distance: 28 miles
Note: Bear Creek Road is narrow and winding, and may be icy during the winter. Use this road with caution.

1)  Go NE on airport Parkway 0.4 mi (toward Technology Drive)
2)  Turn R onto Old Bayshore Hwy. Continue 0.1 mi.
3)  Turn slight R onto N 1st St . Continue 0.9 mi
4)  Merge onto I-880 South towards Santa Cruz and continue 3.6 mi.
5)  I-880 South becomes Hwy 17 South. Continue 9.8 mi.
6)  Take the Bear Creek Rd Exit. Continue 0.1 mi
7)  Turn L at the stop sign onto Bear Creek Rd. Continue 12.8 mi.
8)  Bear Creek will dead end on Hwy 9.  Turn L onto Hwy. 9 and continue 0.3 mi.
9)  Turn R on Lomond St  and go one block.
10)  Turn L on Pine.

Via Summit Road
Time:  50 minutes
Distance:  32 miles
Cutting off the lower part of Bear Creek, you travel along the ridge. This road becomes a single lane at a point, but it is a lovely country drive with wonderful views.  You will pass by David Bruce Winery and Byington Winery.

1)  Go NE on airport Parkway 0.4 mi (toward Technology Drive)
2)  Turn R onto Old Bayshore Hwy. Continue 0.1 mi.
3)  Turn slight R onto N 1st St . Continue 0.9 mi
4)  Merge onto I-880 South towards Santa Cruz and continue 3.6 mi.
5)  I-880 South becomes Hwy 17 South. Continue 13.7 mi.
6)  Exit at Summit Road
7)  Turn L at the stop sign at the top of the hill and continue 0.2 mi on Summit Road
8)  Keep R at the fork to stay on Summit Rd (Hwy 35) for another 2.6 mi
9)  Summit Road ends at Bear Creek Rd. Turn L on Bear Creek Rd. and continue 9.9 mi
10)  Bear Creek ends at Hwy 9.  Turn L on Hwy 9 and continue 0.3 mi
11)  Turn R on Lomond St  and go one block
10)  Turn L on Pine St.

Via Hwy 17 through Scotts Valley
Time:  55 minutes
Distance:  38 miles
This is a good route to take during poor weather, or if winding roads cause you get car sick. Scotts Valley is a fairly big town (pop. 12,000) with chain stores along its main street. Most of the route is well lit at night. 

1)  Go NE on airport Parkway 0.4 mi (toward Technology Drive)
2)  Turn R onto Old Bayshore Hwy. Continue 0.1 mi.
3)  Turn slight R onto N 1st St . Continue 0.9 mi.
4)  Merge onto I-880 South towards Santa Cruz and continue 3.6 mi.
5)  I-880 South becomes Hwy 17 South. Continue 23 mi.
6)  Exit Mt Hermon Rd  and continue 0.2 mi.
7)  Turn R at the light onto Mt Hermon Rd and drive through town for 3.5 mi.
8)  Mt Hermon will end on Graham Hill Rd. Turn R and continue on Graham Hill 0.2 mi.
9)  Turn R at the next light onto Hwy 9 and continue 6.5 miles. You will go through the towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, and Brookdale before you reach Boulder Creek.
10)  Turn L on Lomond St and drive one block.
11)  Turn L on Pine.

Via Hwy 280 to Bear Creek
Time:  1 hr 19 minutes
Distance:  61.5 miles

1)  Take Hwy 101 North toward San Francisco and continue 1.1 mi.
2)  Merge onto I-380 and continue west toward I-280/ San Bruno for 1.9 mi
3)  Move left and merge onto I-280 South toward San Jose. Continue on I-280 for 31.5 mi.
4)  Merge onto Hwy 85 South toward Gilroy and continue 7.7 mi.
5)  Merge onto Hwy 17 South toward Santa Cruz and continue 5.6 mi.
6)  Exit Bear Creek Road
7) Turn L at stop sign onto Bear Creek Road. Continue 12.9 mi.

Via Hwy 280 to Skyline Blvd/ Hwy 35

Distance:  55 miles
This is a lovely country drive along the ridge, but there are few towns or services along this route.  You will pass by the famous Alice’s Restaurant along the way as well as Thomas Fogarty Winery.

1)  Take Hwy 101 North toward San Francisco and continue 1.1 mi.
2)  Merge onto I-380 and continue west toward I-280/ San Bruno for 1.9 mi
3)  Stay left and merge onto I-280 South toward San Jose. Continue on I-280 8.6 mi.
4)  Take Hwy 35 West exit toward Hwy 92 West/ Half Moon Bay/ Bunker Hill Dr. Continue 0.2 mi
5)  Turn slight L onto Skyline Blvd/ Hwy 35 and continue 1.1 mi.
6)  Turn R onto Hwy 92/ Hwy 35/ Half Moon Bay Rd  and continue 2.0 mi.
7)  Turn slight L onto Skyline Blvd/ Hwy 35  and continue 26.1 mi.
8)  Turn R onto Hwy 9 and follow to Boulder Creek  for 13.9 mi.

Via Woodside Rd to Skyline Blvd.

This route takes you through the quaint town of Woodside, past grand estates, and along the ridge for incredible views.  You will also pass Thomas Fogarty Winery and the famous Alice‘s Restaurant.

1)  Take Hwy 101 North toward San Francisco and continue 1.1 mi.
2)  Merge onto I-380 and continue west toward I-280/ San Bruno for 1.9 mi.
3)  Stay left and merge onto I-280 South toward San Jose. Continue 18.3 mi.
4)  Take the Woodside Road Exit and turn R (towards Canada Rd/ Woodside) at the bottom of the off ramp.
5)  Follow Woodside Rd/ Hwy 84 to the town of Woodside.
6)  Continue on Hwy 84 (past estates and up the mountain) to the intersection of Hwy 35. You will see Alice’s Restaurant.
7)  Turn L and continue on Hwy 35/ Skyline Blvd for 14 mi.
8)  Turn R onto Hwy 9 and continue 13.9 mi to Boulder Creek.
9)  Turn R onto Lomond St.
10)  Turn L onto Pine St.

Via Hwy 9 through Saratoga
Time:  1 hr 28 minutes
Distance:  62 miles
This route takes you through the lovely little town of Saratoga, and up Scenic Hwy 9. 

1)  Take Hwy 101 North toward San Francisco and continue 1.1 mi.
2)  Merge onto I-380 and continue west toward I-280/ San Bruno for 1.9 mi.
3)  Stay left and merge onto I-280 South toward San Jose. Continue 31.5 mi. on I-280.
4)  Merge onto Hwy 85 South toward Gilroy and continue 2.5 mi.
5)  Take the De Anza Blvd exit and turn R on De Anza.
6) De Anza Blvd will become Saratoga Sunnyvale Rd . Continue 2.8 mi.
7)  Turn R onto Big Basin Way/ Hwy 9.  You will see a stucco “arch” memorial at this intersection.  Be aware that the road will have a different name on the left side.
8)  Drive through the town of Saratoga and continue up Hwy 9.  You will cross over Skyline Blvd/ Hwy 35 at the top of the ridge.  Continue 21.2 mi to Boulder Creek.
9)  Turn R onto Lomond St.
10)  Turn L onto Pine St.

From Monterey
Time:  1 hr 8 minutes 
Distance:  55 miles
This route takes you along the coast and passes Moss Landing where you can enjoy great antique shops and seafood restaurants (namely “Phil’s Fish market”).  You will also cross over Elkhorn Slough, which hosts the best bird watching you can imagine!

1)  Take Hwy 1 North towards Santa Cruz  and continue 40.5 mi.
2)  Merge onto Hwy 17 North  and continue 3.3 mi toward San Jose
3)  Take the Mt Hermon Road Exit and follow the ramp back over the freeway 0.1 mi
4)  Continue on Mt Hermon Road through Scott’s Valley. Continue 3.8 miles through the countryside and dead end on Graham Hill Road.
5)  Turn R on Graham Hill Road and continue 0.2 mi.
6)  Turn R onto Hwy 9 and continue 6.5 mi. You will pass through the towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, and Brookdale before entering Boulder Creek.
7)  Turn L onto Lomond St.
8)  Turn L onto Pine St.
